The word Qi can mean breath or energy. Gong is made up of two chinese characters, gong “work” and li “strength”. Qi brings life and and vitality. Everyone possesses qi but everyones quality of qi can vary. One way to think of qi is to think of it as sap moving through a healthy tree. In a healthy tree, sap moves smoothly and freely, the tree is flexible yet strong. When the tree gets sick it withers, stiffens, and breaks easily. As the sap flow slows/stops the life force is lost. The the practice of Qi Gong works to cultivate and move qi in the body to remove blockages that cause disease(s). With practice, we are able to not only cultivate our qi but move the qi to remove blockages and essentially heal/nourish our body.
